Climate change getting worse, not better
Despite 20 years of effort to reduce levels, a new report from the International Energy Agency says greenhouse gas emissions are going in the wrong direction.
"Countries like Canada, the United States and China and India haven't been trying to reduce emissions," says John Bennett with Sierra Club Canada, noting he's not surprised since politicians the world over have only been talking about the problem, not tackling it. "Especially in Canada and the United States where we can afford it and we can actually benefit from doing it in terms of our economy and as well as our environment."
Delegates from 180 countries have gathered in Bonn, Germany, for two weeks of climate talks with the goal being to hammer out a new global warming accord.
(We have) "a tremendous volume of science that's very persuasive, and we have politicians all around the world talking about it, and still nothing seems to be done," adds a frustrated Bennett.
Bennett tells 660News the only way to tackle global warming is to adopt a war-like mentality.
"We have to" (face) "climate change with a similiar kind of attitude that we're going to defeat it no" (matter) "what it costs," he adds. "But knowing that we can do it in a very intelligent way."
According to the International Energy Agency, greenhouse gas emissions are at record levels.
