Over the last few decades, Canadians’ weekly shopping has changed. We have been increasingly placing items in our carts and baskets that have originated from distant places that we may have never visited ourselves.
The transportation of food from farm to fork (and often several distribution depots in between) is responsible for the release of tonnes of greenhouse gases each year. Update on Pickering Airport development proposal
Submitted by Andrew Holownych on Tue, 2011-07-19 11:59Transport Canada released a study on Monday July 11th, 2011, that suggested an airport would be needed on federally owned land in northwest Pickering some time in the next 16 to 26 years. Under the scenarios envisioned by the study, Pearson will likely reach a maximum capacity of 54 million to 60 million passengers annually between 2027 and 2037, up from 32 million now. Meanwhile, the international airports in Hamilton and Waterloo could see as many as 10.5 million and 6.9 million annual passengers, respectively – exponential increases, given that both airports currently serve a combined total of just 500,000 people every year.... While passing by a small produce store recently, a random selection of “Ontario” fruits and vegetables caught my eye. Being a person who loves their blueberries, I was pleased to see that there were some (more expensive) of the berry under a sign proclaiming their nearby upbringing. Sitting there in their polite, plain green pints, calling me...
